I
Have To Dance
By
Mushroom Montoya
My
hips sway to the left
Just
a little
My
hips sway to the right
Just
a little more
“What's
ya doin' down there?”
My
shoulders ask,
Pushed,
nudged, and prodded
To
the left Just a little
Then
following to the right
Just
a little more.
My
head turns to the sound
My
feet follow suit
Twitching
to the beat
Longing
to lift up high.
The
drum stretches its arms
Around
my stomach
Pulling
me closer
With
its boney, plunky fingers.
Angelique
Kidjo's Wombo Lombo
Whips
me around into the dance
Her
voice asks,
“Have
you ever seen this man moving?”
I
have to dance
I
cannot refuse
My
hips are already swaying
Sliding,
into the waterfall of notes.
Swinging
from the tree branches,
Flying
around the clouds,
Swimming
with the wiggly eels
Is
how it feels
When
I let my body go.
Moving,
swaying, and sliding
Through
the glory of her voice.
I
really have no choice.
I
have to dance.
